Training Academy Orientation

Before beginning your Training Academy coursework, all students are required to complete the mandatory Orientation Program. This orientation ensures that students understand the structure, expectations, and requirements of the program and are fully prepared to begin their academic journey.

The orientation is designed to familiarize students with the 13-Domain both CSAC and CSAC-A curriculum, assessment procedures, academic policies, and the Moodle learning platform used throughout the program. Completion of orientation is required before access to Domain 1 coursework is granted.

What You Will Learn During Orientation

During orientation, students will review and acknowledge the following:

Overview of the CSAC and CSAC-A Training Programs

The CSAC (Certified Substance Abuse Counselor) and CSAC-A (Certified Substance Abuse Counselor-Assistant) training programs are designed to prepare students for professional practice in substance use disorder counseling. The programs follow state-recognized training standards and provide structured instruction in counseling fundamentals, ethics, assessment, treatment planning, and professional conduct. CSAC-A is an entry-level program, while CSAC provides advanced preparation for independent practice. Completion of training does not replace required supervised experience hours, which must be completed separately in accordance with state regulations.

Structure of the 13-Domain Curriculum

The curriculum is organized into 13 competency-based domains, each addressing a core area of substance abuse counseling practice. Domains are completed sequentially, beginning with Domain 1. Each domain includes learning objectives, instructional materials, assessments, and required documentation. Students must successfully complete each domain before advancing, ensuring progressive skill development and mastery of required competencies.

Assessment Methods, Grading Scale, and Minimum Passing Requirements

Student learning is evaluated through quizzes, written assignments, case studies, and examinations. All assessments are completed and submitted through the Moodle Learning Management System. The standard grading scale requires a minimum score of 70% to pass an assessment unless otherwise specified. Grades are recorded within the LMS, and feedback is provided to support academic improvement.

Assignment Submission and Examination Procedures

Assignments and exams must be submitted through Moodle by the posted deadlines. Students are responsible for verifying successful submission and retaining copies of their work. Late submissions may be subject to penalties unless an approved extension or makeup request is granted. Examination protocols, including time limits and attempt restrictions, must be followed as outlined in each course module.

Academic Integrity Standards and Professional Conduct Expectations

Students are expected to uphold the highest standards of academic integrity and professionalism. Prohibited behaviors include plagiarism, cheating, falsification of records, and unauthorized collaboration. Professional conduct includes respectful communication with instructors, staff, and peers. Violations of academic integrity or professional standards may result in disciplinary action, including course failure or dismissal from the program.

Attendance, Participation, and Engagement Requirements

While coursework is delivered online and self-paced, students are expected to actively engage with course materials and complete assignments within required timeframes. Participation includes timely submission of coursework, responsiveness to instructor communication, and adherence to program schedules. Failure to maintain engagement may affect academic standing or program completion.

Student Code of Conduct and Disciplinary Policies

All students must comply with the Student Code of Conduct, which governs ethical behavior, professionalism, communication standards, and compliance with program policies. Disciplinary actions may include warnings, academic probation, suspension, or dismissal depending on the severity of the violation. All disciplinary decisions are documented and handled according to established procedures.

Confidentiality and Compliance Standards

Students are required to comply with applicable confidentiality and privacy regulations, including HIPAA, 42 CFR Part 2, and FERPA, where applicable. This includes protecting client information, handling sensitive data appropriately, and maintaining confidentiality in all coursework and documentation. Breaches of confidentiality are considered serious violations and may result in disciplinary action.

Clinical Supervision and Documentation Requirements (Where Applicable)

Some program components may require supervised practice or documentation of clinical experience, depending on certification level and state requirements. Students are responsible for securing approved supervision, maintaining accurate documentation, and submitting required records in a timely manner. Training completion does not substitute for mandated supervision hours required for certification eligibility.

Technology Requirements and Platform Access Responsibilities

Students must maintain access to a reliable computer, internet connection, and supported web browser to participate in coursework. Access to the Moodle LMS and Millennium Training Student Portal is required throughout the program. Students are responsible for safeguarding login credentials and reporting access issues promptly.

Requesting Academic Support, Extensions, or Technical Assistance

Students may request academic support, extensions, makeup work, or technical assistance through designated Student Portal forms. Requests must include relevant details and documentation when required. All requests are reviewed according to established policies, and responses are typically provided within 24–48 business hours. Urgent technical issues should be reported immediately
