The Peer Recovery Specialist (PRS) Educational Training program at Millennium Training is a structured 6-month educational pathway designed to support individuals developing peer support knowledge, recovery-oriented practice, communication skills, and professional readiness.

The program combines self-paced online instruction with weekly facilitated virtual sessions to reinforce core concepts and practical application. Training content includes peer support foundations, ethics, cultural responsiveness, communication strategies, recovery tools, crisis support, documentation, and professional development.

This training is designed to prepare participants for continued growth in peer recovery support services and to build a strong foundation in recovery-centered engagement, advocacy, and support practice.

The curriculum is delivered through flexible online learning and scheduled live virtual meetings, allowing students to engage in a supportive and accessible learning format.

CURRICULUM OVERVIEW

6-Month Training Structure

The PRS Educational Training program is organized into six months of guided instruction. Each month builds on foundational peer support concepts and develops practical knowledge for recovery-oriented support work.

Introduction to peer support, the recovery model, the role of lived experience, ethics, professional boundaries, cultural competency, and understanding behavioral health conditions.

Active listening, empathy, motivational interviewing basics, trauma-informed peer support, and group facilitation skills.

WRAP, WHAM, crisis response, de-escalation, suicide prevention, and practical recovery support tools.

Documentation for peer support services, Medicaid billing and compliance awareness, system navigation, community resources, and interdisciplinary teamwork.

Co-occurring disorders, culturally responsive support, virtual peer support, self-care, and burnout prevention.

Certification process overview, career development, continuing education, supervision, and final review.
